IAJF Local Emergency Assistance Program

Since the creation of the Local Emergency Assistance Program in 2008, IAJF has committed to provide assistance to needy Iranian Jewish community members in the New York metropolitan area.  IAJF is particularly grateful for the dedication of Mr. Yosef Shahery z”l, who for decades worked tirelessly to ensure IAJF’s ability to help the unemployed, the destitute elderly, those in need of emergency financial or humanitarian aid, and owners of distressed businesses.

In 2019 IAJF expanded the Assistance Program with the creation of the Tikvah Program, a collaborative project with UJA-Federation of New York and Commonpoint Queens.  Through this partnership, dedicated, professional social workers connect those in need to a vast array of resources, including:

  • Government benefits and food stamps

  • Financial counseling

  • Food pantry services

  • Senior services

  • Employment assistance

  • Childcare referrals

These services are completely free and confidential.  The program takes a respectful, comprehensive, and sustainable approach to address the needs of individuals or families during vulnerable times.  For more information, please contact:  Leslie Kraut, LCSW  718-225-6750 ext. 248
